If you’ve been keeping up with Rebel Wilson on Instagram, then you’re certainly aware of the Pitch Perfect star’s inspiring weight loss journey. After declaring 2020 her “Year of Health,” Wilson has been keeping fans updated on her progress with posts detailing her fitness routine, diet changes, and motivation tips.

In a recent Instagram Story, Wilson said the she has officially achieved her weight loss goal. “Hit my goal with one month to spare!” Wilson captioned a photo of a scale, which read 74.6 kgs. “Even though it’s not about a weight number, it’s about being healthy, I needed a tangible measurement to have as a goal and that was 75 kgs (165 pounds).”

Wilson took to Instagram to answer fans’ questions in a video, and she revealed the diet and fitness tips she followed to lose 60 pounds. The actress said that, as she approached her 40th birthday, her decision to freeze her eggs inspired her to make healthy changes. “I was thinking about fertility and having good quality eggs in the bank, so I was like, ‘OK, I’m going to do this, I’m going to get healthy,’” she said.

Wilson explained that it’s more difficult for her to lose weight, due to her polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), genetics, and battle with emotional eating. But she remained committed to her goals over the year. In November, Wilson told Drew Barrymore that she’s feeling “healthier than ever” after her transformation—but she still embraces her figure just how it is. “I love my curves and stuff. I don’t think I’ll ever go too skinny, but I feel so much healthier,” she said.

After beginning her weight loss journey in January, Wilson has met her goal, but she still plans to keep up with her new lifestyle into 2021. Here’s everything we know about hger fitness and nutrition routine thus far:

1. She initially lost weight while filming Cats.

Wilson’s weight loss transformation first began while she was shooting Cats in 2019. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in December, the actress said that she lost eight pounds in four days while filming. (Note that the CDC recommends one to two pounds as a safe amount to lose in a week.)

“They heated up the set very high, to almost 100°F, so that we could never cool down,” Wilson told ET. “These people are like, the best dancers in the whole world, so they can’t cool their muscles down or they could get an injury and they’d be out of the film.”

Wilson wanted to continue her weight loss journey into 2020 as she approached 40. She decided to declare the year her “Year of Health” in early January. “In 2020, I wrote a letter to myself and said I was going to give it all this year. And then I did,” she said in an Instagram video.

2. She cut down on sugar and junk food.

In November, Wilson told Barrymore that she previously suffered from emotional eating due to fame and would eat around 3,000 calories a day. (Public health guidelines currently suggest that adult women aim to consume a range of 1,600 to 2,400 calories per day.)

“There is a lot of stress that comes with it, and I guess my way of dealing with it was just eating donuts,” she said. “So I was working on the mental side of things of ‘Why was I not doing that? Why was I not valuing myself and having better self-worth?’”

So, the actress decided to make some healthy changes. In an Instagram post on January 2, she shared three photos from a walk along the beach, and let her fans know the lifestyle changes she was planning to make, like loading up on more water while avoiding sugar and junk food. “Who’s with me in making some positive changes this year?” she wrote.

In another post from August, Wilson said one time at dinner she was “reaching for the candies,” and decided to rethink the decision. “I thought to myself ‘hmmmm...better not’ and had a bottle of water instead,” she wrote in the caption, also adding that she was just 18 pounds from her goal weight back then.

Today, Wilson follows a high-protein diet, which includes lots of vegan protein smoothies, chicken breast, and salmon. Although Wilson cuts down on sugar and junk food for the most part, she still makes room for balance. For instance, she shared a video of her enjoying a pastry in Monaco. “Remember though girls, you still gotta treat yourself 😘🍰,” she wrote in the caption. “I just do it with food now only once or twice a week...and substitute bubble baths on alternate nights.”

3. She’s reportedly following the Mayr Method.

Wilson is said to be following the Mayr Method, a restrictive program that claims to promote weight loss by improving gut health. According to People, Wilson has achieved “amazing results” with the Mayr Method after visiting the Austrian luxury medical detox and wellness center VivaMayr.

The Mayr Method is based on the “Mayr Cure,” created by Austrian physician Franz Xaver Mayr, M.D. The plan kicks off by eliminating sugar and caffeine and suggests specific eating habits like chewing food at least 40 to 60 times. The Mayr Method also eliminates snacking and reduces gluten and dairy. The actress told People that she recently went back to the VivaMayr resort to ensure that she met her goals.

4. She hits the gym most days of the week.

Wilson hits the gym six to seven says a week, she revealed in an Instagram video. “Sunday is a rest day, and I’m normally doing at least an hour of physical activity a day,” she said.

In January, one of Wilson’s trainers, Jono Castano Acero, shared a video of the actress working hard in the gym with a set of battle ropes. “Friday vibes but @rebelwilson has been putting in the yards seven days a week! Proud of you girl ❤️,” Acero captioned the post.

Acero told Today that a “typical workout week” includes a ton of high intensity interval training:

  • DAY 1: HIIT

  • DAY 2: WEIGHTS / RESISTANCE TRAINING

  • DAY 3: MOBILITY / RECOVERY

  • DAY 4: HIIT

  • DAY 5: HIIT / WEIGHTS

  • DAY 6: RECOVERY

  • DAY 7: HIIT

5. She gets her steps in every day.

Wilson’s favorite way to work out? Walking. “I know I’m in a lucky position, I do have access to really amazing personal trainers. But I want you guys to know that the majority of exercise I’ve done this year has just been me going out for a walk,” she said in a recent Instagram video. “That is free, you can do it, it’s safe.”

She isn’t big on running, but she likes to get her heart rate up. “Walking is the best way for me—for my body type—to metabolize fat,” she added. “On the physical side, my biggest tip, guys, is get out there and walk. If you can do an hour, that’s what I like to do, when I go walking, and it is the best. Just get your body moving.”

Wilson loves to walk outdoors, and she wakes up super early to ensure she gets her workouts in. In October, she shared a photo during her morning hike, which kicked off at 6 a.m. and involved some 100 meter sprints.

“I never thought I would like hiking—walking uphill. Who would have thought that would be a fun activity? But freak, it’s good!” she said. “Get out in nature. Get air into your lungs. I really, really love it, so I do it now all the time.”

6. She lifts weights.

In addition to cardio, Wilson loves strength training. “Ladies, don’t be afraid of weights. I love lifting weights. It just makes you feel really strong,” she said in an Instagram video, while showing off her biceps. “I love that feeling of feeling strong and powerful.”

She even flip tires during her workouts. Wilson shared a video of her flipping a large tire as part of an outdoor workout, showing off her strength. “Starting the week off right! Look out @chrishemsworth & @liamhemsworth 👀 Australia’s latest action hero is turning it up! 💪🏻” she wrote in the caption.

Wilson likes to box, too. The Cats star shared two photos and a video of her boxing in a ring.

7. She uses TRX to build strength and coordination.

Wilson’s trainer told Hollywood Life that a typical circuit Wilson does in the gym involves the assault bike (as fast as possible until she reaches 10 calories burned), battle rope slams (30 seconds), and TRX squats (20 reps). “I use the TRX as it focuses on using bodyweight and gravity as resistance to build strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, core and joint stability,” Acero said.

She also works on her core with a standing bandit trunk rotation and dead bugs with a medicine ball, which Acero says are “effective, safe, and a great way to strengthen and stabilize your core, spine, and back muscles.”

8. She holds herself accountable.

Acero encouraged Wilson to share her progress on social media in order to keep her on top of her workouts. “Keep yourself accountable, free posting on social,” he told Today. “Rebel has been posting for the whole 2020 about her journey, the ups and downs.”

Joining a community where other people post their meals and share tips during their weight loss journey can be helpful. “I think that’s definitely a massive boost if you’re trying to get fit,” Acero said.

That’s why he checks in with the actress often, not just while they’re training together. “It’s not just about 45 minutes with a person,” he said. “It’s about 24 hours, checking in.”

9. She practices self-love.

Wilson, who struggled with emotional eating, still says she still struggles sometimes. “The old patterns still come up,” she said. “Maybe not every day. But if I’m worried or anxious or whatever, it still comes up for me. It’s not something that’s just going to disappear, it’s just something I have to manage now moving forward.”

“It’s just about how you manage it and what you can do to … try to replace your unhealthy habits with healthy ones,” she said.

Wilson said she would wear her weight as a barrier. “What I’ve found is that, why I was doing those unhealthy behaviors, is because I wasn’t treating myself with love and respect,” she said. “I just wasn’t valuing myself.”

“What I was trying to do is change those habits so that you’re more loving and you’re treating yourself with more respect,” she continued. “I’m working on self-love, and that’s a hard concept to master.” To foster self-love, Wilson practices journaling, where she writes down all of her emotions. “I like to end in gratitude and write down what I’m blessed about,” she said. “Even if it’s something very small ... that’s amazing.”
