Recalling the day when two tornadoes touched down in southern Ontario

On Tuesday, May 13, 2014, two tornadoes touched down in southern Ontario.
One of the twisters landed in the Conestogo Lake region. It travelled for 8 km but didn't cause significant damage so it was rated an EF0 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

The other twister packed a little bit of a punch and was rated an EF1 based on its impact.

The EF1 tornado touched down in Mildmay, Ontario, about 100 km northwest of Kitchener. It had a diameter of 150 m and only travelled for about 2 km.

The tornado damaged a house, a barn, trees, and power lines.

Dayna Vettese, The Weather Network meteorologist, explained that as "...storms moved in over land across southern Ontario, they came into contact with the lake breeze boundaries that were in place," adding that "As the storms interacted with those boundaries, the storms were able to spin briefly."
