‘Recognizing injustice of the past’: Canada signs $1.3 billion land settlement with Siksika First Nation
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau signed on Thursday a $1.3 billion historic land claim settlement with Siksika First Nation, represented by Chief Ouray Crowfoot, which dates back more than a century to when Canada broke its Blackfoot Treaty promise and took almost half of Siksika Nation’s reserve land. “Today is about recognizing the terrible injustice of the past,” Trudeau said.
