Record-setting warm temperatures could hit Windsor-Essex this weekend

Windsor-Essex could be looking at record-setting warm weather throughout the weekend, according to Environment Canada.

The weather authority issued a heat warning Friday and people packed parks and splash pads to soak up the unseasonably warm temperatures during the first day of fall.

"It's going to be a great weekend," said Chantell Upham as she watched her kids enjoy the water at Mic Mac Park. "I think it's going to be awesome."

The mother added she was glad the city left the splash pads open.

"My kids are having a blast, and even mommy," she said, indicating her soaked shirt and pants.

Temps in October should be more seasonal

Weather preparedness meteorologist Geoff Coulson said hot weather this week wasn't enough to break any records for Windsor-Essex, but with temperatures well-above the seasonal average forecasted for the coming days that could change.

"We could be looking at new record temperatures for Saturday, Sunday and Monday in the Windsor area," he said, adding many will welcome the heat after a summer many felt was a "bit of a disappointment in terms of the temperatures."

Higher than usual temperatures are expected through to the end of September, but things should become slightly more seasonal in the beginning of October.

In the meantime, Coulson had some simple advice for people sweating it out.

"Take breaks, stay hydrated."
