Recovery centre set up in Elfros, Sask., following flash floods

After flash floods put the Village of Elfros underwater this weekend, the province set up a flood recovery centre today.

On Tuesday, officials from the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) staffed a recovery centre in the Elfros, Sask., about 211 kilometres east of Saskatoon.

The recovery centre is meant to provide support and advice to flood-stricken residents in the community and surrounding areas affected by the recent severe weather.

On Saturday Elfros received about 144 millimetres of rain in an hour.

"Any resident whose property has been impacted by the recent flooding and severe weather in the area of Elfros should visit the recovery centre and speak to a PDAP official," Government Relations Minister Jim Reiter said. "PDAP staff will be on-hand to guide residents through the claims process as well as answer any questions they might have about the program."

The recovery centre has been set up in the rural municipality office on 202 Front Ave., in Elfros. The centre will be open tonight until 8 p.m. CST and again Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
