Redwater man's disappearance deemed homicide

RCMP say a Redwater man's disappearance three weeks ago is now being investigated as a homicide.

Randy Lopushinsky, 56, was last seen on Jan. 23. He was last known to be in the Redwater area, but also regularly visited Westlock.

RCMP said Lopushinsky was last known to be in possession of a blue 2007 Ford Escape. This vehicle was found in a rural area northwest of Westlock at the end of January.

Police said Saturday they are continuing their investigation into Lopushinsky's disappearance, but as a result of the investigation so far, have determined he was a victim of homicide. The Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.

Anyone with information about this homicide is asked to contact Redwater RCMP.

Sgt. Jack Poitras could not elaborate on what evidence was discovered that led to the case being investigated as a homicide.

"It would be great if people, when they last saw him, could tell us where and when, especially in this case to try and determine when he was last seen," Poitras said.
