Regina naming park after Roughrider ex-CEO Jim Hopson

Former Roughriders president Jim Hopson could soon have a Regina park named after him.

The proposed Hopson Park would go in the new Hawkstone neighbourhood on the north end of the city, according to a report that went to the Regina Planning Commission on Wednesday.

Many of the streets surrounding the park have Roughriders-themed names, including nearby Poley Street and Jurasin Drive.

Hopson was a player with the Riders between 1973 and 1976, before leaving football and launching a three-decade career in education.

After returning to the Riders in an executive capacity a decade ago, Hopson's team went on to win two Grey Cups (in 2007 and 2013). He retired as CEO and president in March.

The park name will need final approval from city council.
