Black Friday shoppers hit the ground running

There were no American-style hordes, but Regina stores had their share of Black Friday shoppers in the morning.

The day that kicks the Christmas shopping season into high gear had people lining up in the pre-dawn hours at some big-box stores.

At the Best Buy store in the city's east end, a few dozen people streamed in as the doors opened in search of bargains.

The Cornwall Centre Mall saw a steady stream of customers from the get-go, and crowds immediately formed around the Hillberg and Berk jewelry counter.

There was no frenzy, however — just a wee bit of jostling.

Meanwhile, for those who didn't feel like joining the throngs today, there's always tomorrow — some retailers say they'll keep the deals coming for a few days more.

Steady shoppers

Black Friday shoppers didn't limit themselves to the morning. Eager crowds of shoppers gathered in stores across the province.

"Black Friday is becoming a huge deal," said Saskatoon London Drugs Manager Kyle Toms. "Started off in the U.S., but it's becoming a huge deal for everybody internationally, especially with online shopping."

Even shoppers who are novices to Black Friday sales were impressed.

"This is our first year here," said Hui Fang, a visitor from China. "We're thinking we can get some very good bargains ... It's a good time, we think."
