Regina's Tess Boehm reflects on 10 years of bariatric surgery

A decade ago, CBC first brought you a story about Tess Boehm. The Regina woman was the first Canadian to go to Brazil for weight-loss surgery. At the time, Boehm said Brazil was her only option because she was afraid she would die while waiting for bariatric surgery in Saskatchewan.

In 2009, CBC spoke with Boehm about her progress.

Now 10 years after Boehm's initial surgery, she is reflecting on her decade long weight-loss journey.

"It's really been an amazing journey in a lot of ways," Boehmn said. "I went from a person who was 450-some pounds to where I am today. I'm never going to be a size 10 and I'm OK with that."

She hopes being open about this journey will help others to be OK with themselves.

"The things that I've been able to do in my personal life and in the community — that I hadn't been able to do in the past — surpasses everything."
