Remains found on Black Mountain identified as Sandra McLaughlan

Kelowna RCMP say remains found in an undeveloped area of Black Mountain are those of Sandra McLaughlan, a woman last seen on May 19, 2016.

"Sandra's next of kin has now been notified of her passing," said Cst. Jesse O'Donaghey on Saturday in a release. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Sandra's family and friends during this difficult time."

Remains were found on June 20 east of Kelowna and, at the time, police treated the discovery as suspicious.

Now investigators have not said if that is still the case, but when McLaughlan was reported missing, officers said there was nothing to indicate foul play.

At the time of her disappearance, friends and family told police that it was out of character for her not to contact them.

Kelowna RCMP have handed the investigation over to the BC Coroners Service.
