'Renaissance' visuals? Beyoncé and Balmain create a couture design for every album track
Beyoncé has released visuals, the wearable kind.
The singer announced a 16-piece Renaissance Couture line on Instagram Friday, corresponding to the 16 tracks included in her 2022 Grammy-winning release, "Renaissance."
The line was crafted in collaboration with her close friend, fellow Virgo and Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing, who also designed the costumes for her Coachella performance in 2018.
Beyoncé's Balmain collection includes crystal chandelier bustier for "thique," a vintage Balmain headwear gilded in gold for "Virgo's Groove," a braided gown to represent her song "Energy," and a lurex-draped metallic cape for the album's closer, "Summer Renaissance." The fashion moment was announced by Vogue France, which will feature Queen Bey on the April cover, as the wears the collection’s studded catsuit and matching hat.
"Designing alongside you was freeing—thank you for allowing me to celebrate the human form, to take artistic risks, to push boundaries and to freely express myself," Beyonce wrote in a message to Rousteing on Instagram with a photo of him giving her a kiss on the cheek.
According to the fashion house's Instagram, it is the first couture collection that has been a collaborative effort.
"Olivier is a dream collaborator and a constantly innovating and evolving creative. All that he has done as a Black designer in breaking down and opening doors has been inspiring," the "Cuff It" singer said in a quote posted to Balmain's Instagram.
The Grammy-winning singer teased pieces of the collection during awards season. For a photoshoot during the Grammy Awards, she posed with the golden hat and corresponding mauve and gold dress while showing off some of the hardware she won during the 65th Grammy Awards. When acknowledging the BRIT award she received in February, she sported the collection's black and white checkered jumpsuit.
"You inspired me everyday since the beginning of my career," Rousteing said on Instagram Friday. "16 couture looks for 16 songs and now our couture Renaissance is out and I have tears in my eyes when I see all what we did."
The collection was created with Balmain and Beyonce's team over the course of five months after Rousteing was inspired to make sketches of pieces made while listening to the album.
"There was no plan, project, or expectation. I had absolutely no reason to be dedicating so much of my time to those drawings, outside of the simple pure pleasure I got from creating something completely new, as I channeled her glorious, joy-filled art into my own," Rousteing wrote in a release.
