Rep. Jackson received ‘suspicious package’ at Chicago office

Rep. Jonathan Jackson (D-Ill.) said Friday that his Chicago office received a “suspicious package,” sparking a law enforcement response.

Staff at the office are safe, and police are investigating the incident, he said.

“I am deeply grateful to my staff for their dedication to serving the people of Illinois’s First Congressional District and thankful that they are unharmed,” he said in a statement. “I would also like to thank law enforcement for their work to keep us safe and for their efforts to investigate this incident. I look forward to the office re-opening soon and returning to the business of serving our constituents.”

The first-term congressman is the son of noted civil rights activist the Rev. Jesse Jackson.
