Rep. McGarvey joins chorus of Democrats urging Biden to drop out

Rep. Morgan McGarvey, Kentucky’s lone Democrat in Washington, has called for President Joe Biden to step aside from seeking the Democratic presidential nomination this year.

The freshman congressman lauded the accomplishments of Biden’s first term. Citing low unemployment, high job growth and movement on climate and infrastructure, McGarvey called Biden “an incredibly effective and empathetic leader.”

But he said that the 81-year-old, whose age and physical state have been under scrutiny since a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump last month, should not be the nominee.

“There has never been any doubt that (Biden) genuinely cares about our country, our government, and the people who make it great,” McGarvey wrote in a statement. “That’s why there is no joy in the recognition he should not be our nominee.”
