Report: Clippers' Redden likely to interview for Pelicans job

Los Angeles Clippers assistant general manager Trent Redden reportedly is close to interviewing for a senior front-office role with the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Clippers gave the Pelicans permission to discuss the position with Redden, ESPN reported on Thursday, citing league sources.

David Griffin, the Pelicans' new executive vice president of basketball operations, worked closely with Redden when they with the Cleveland Cavaliers during their 2016 NBA championship season.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski noted that Griffin is expected to be "aggressive" in pursuing Redden.

Griffin, 45, joined the Cavaliers as vice president of basketball operations in September 2010 and added full-time GM to his duties in May 2014.

Griffin plans to prioritize the hiring of talented executives over filling specific roles and titles, he indicated in an introductory press conference on Wednesday.

He also hopes that Anthony Davis will remain with the Pelicans after his recent conversation with agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, the firm that represents the six-time All-Star.

"We have a long successful history with Klutch Sports," Griffin said. "Rich Paul and I have spoke about Anthony. We are both excited about what we could potentially build here.

"Rich Paul and I were part of succeeding. They will understand when I say this: 'You are either all the way or all the way out.'"

After Redden's departure from the Cavaliers in 2017, where he had worked his way up to a front-office position over an 11-year period, he took his current job with the Clippers.

According to league sources at ESPN, Clippers GM Michael Winger is expected to interview for the president of basketball operations position with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Clippers finished second in the Pacific Division with a 48-34 record this season, and are tied 1-1 with the Golden State Warriors in their first-round playoff series.
