Disgraced former NFL player Greg Hardy will get a serious chance to fight professionally in the UFC, MMA Today reports.

Hardy, the former star pass rusher for the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys, has not played football since 2015 when a domestic violence incident forced him out of the league. The 29-year-old has since started an amateur mixed martial arts career, where he has compiled a 3-0 record.

Hardy will make his professional debut in in “Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series” on June 12, where he will fight Brandon Sayles (5-1), according to the report. DWTNCS is a web series showcasing fighters with hopes of earning a UFC contract. It is not a UFC-licensed event, but it is endorsed by White, who is the president of the UFC, and viewed via UFC Fight Pass.

Fighters who impress UFC officials during the event are often awarded UFC contracts.

White spoke to Fox Sports 1 about the prospect of signing Hardy in 2016.

“I’m not saying he should be welcomed here,” White said, via MMA Today. “I’m saying, I’m a guy who believes that if you make a mistake, your life isn’t over forever. When you make mistakes, it’s about how you act from there on out.”

In 2014, Hardy’s accuser described an alleged scene in which he threatened to kill her, beat her repeatedly and slammed her hand with a toilet seat before throwing her onto a bed covered with guns. Hardy was initially convicted, but charges were dropped on appeal when his accuser declined to cooperate with prosecution for another trial.

He was released by the Panthers before signing with the Cowboys, who did not re-sign him after the 2015 season. No other teams showed interest in Hardy.
