Rescue Crews Race to Save Whales After 270 Become Stranded in Tasmania's West

Rescue teams raced to save a pod of 270 whales that were stranded in Macquarie Harbour on Tasmania’s west coast on September 22.

Around 60 people were involved in the effort to save the whales, including 40 from various state agencies.

One-third of the whales had died after becoming stranded on September 21, news reports citing officials said.

Members of the public were urged to stay away from the area to avoid interfering with the rescue effort. Credit: wes_rawprojects via Storyful
