Family left homeless after their house collapses due to building work next door

A family was left homeless after building work on the house next door caused their walls to collapse.

Emergency services were called after part of their terraced property on Claremont Road in Rugby, Warwickshire, fell down on Tuesday evening.

Later that night at 2am the side of the house completely caved in, leaving two rooms fully exposed and making a sound “like a bomb going off”, according to neighbours.

The family were away at the time and fortunately nobody was injured. They have temporarily been forced to move into a hotel while a new property is found.

Two of the children’s bedrooms and the kitchen were destroyed as a result of the collapse and the family’s possessions were left strewn across the road.

Neighbour Laura Evans, 33, said: "I just heard this almighty bang, like a bomb going off and could see dust rising into the air. It was pretty scary."

Structural engineers have also attended to examine the property after Rugby Borough Council launched an investigation.

One family member, who did not wish to be named, said: "It was a shocking experience and no one is accepting liability.
