8 – The DASH diet

The DASH diet stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, and was designed specifically to help combat high blood pressure by focusing on consuming fruits, vegetables and lean meats.
The diet originated after researchers noticed that people who followed a vegan or vegetarian diet were less likely to have high blood pressure. Adapting their findings from a strictly plant-based diet to include lean proteins like chicken and fish, researchers believe that by reducing salt, sugar and fat, the DASH diet can help reverse blood pressure and prevent heart disease.
While the DASH diet can help lower blood pressure, it may not always lead to weight loss. However, considering the diet nixes processed sugars and high fat foods, it often leads to some weight loss for most people.
