A Ridgetown native is the latest scholarship recipient.

Hanna Reid of Ridgetown has received a $2,500 scholarship from the Municipal Retirees Organization of Ontario.

The Municipal Retirees Organization of Ontario, a non-profit corporation, awarded $99,000 in scholarships to 72 second-year students this year. Last year, MROO happily supported thirty-five second-year students across Ontario.

According to the organization’s website, the Scholarship Committee was looking for applicants who have experience in leadership positions, are committed to volunteer service and helping others and have a clear vision of how they will make a difference in their community and the world.

Recipients must be related to a Municipal Retirees Organization of Ontario lifetime member.

To be eligible for an MROO scholarship, students also must be entering the second year at a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution in a full-time program and complete and submit a resume as well as a 200-300-word essay and other required documents.

Reid is currently studying animal science technology in Alberta at Lakeland College. Reid attended Ridgetown District High School and is the daughter of Rob and Kyla Reid who live on Talbot Trail, just east of Morpeth.
