Rob Ford makes cameo in 'Not My Time' cancer anthem

Rob Ford is heading into cancer surgery on a high note.

The former Toronto mayor and Ward 2 councillor sings in Not My Time, a cancer anthem released by the non-profit Rainbow Association of Canadian Artists (RACA).

He appears alongside 11 indie singers from the Spectra Talent Contest, an inclusive talent contest and a division of RACA.

Ford, who will undergo surgery to remove a cancerous tumour on Monday, sings "it's not my time" at the end of the track.

"I'd ask everyone to put their politics aside and stand behind the causes this song represents," Ford said in a statement, adding he expects the song to be a hit.

RACA executive director Ralph Hamelmann, who co-wrote the track with record producer Mark Zubek and Gemini Award-winner Paul Bellini, says Ford was "an obvious choice for this project."

"I'm hoping our song will become a much-needed anthem of hope," he said.

Not My Time will be released June 22.

The non-profit says 100 per cent of the proceeds will go toward RACA and the Canadian Cancer Society.
