Rob Ford's crack confession necktie for sale on eBay
The tie that Rob Ford wore on the day he first admitted to smoking crack cocaine is up for sale on eBay.
The city councillor and former Toronto mayor announced on Twitter earlier this month that he would be selling off some collectibles and giving 10 per cent of the proceeds to charity.
On Wednesday, he tweeted that "new items" were up for sale on eBay.
Some old pyjama pants were one of the items posted to the online auction site, while another item was a football-themed tie that is likely familiar to anyone who followed the mayor and his crack scandal.
"This is the original piece, not a reproduction — there is only one of these in existence," the description reads on eBay, with the word original in boldface.
Mark Towhey, who previously served as Ford's chief of staff, tweeted Wednesday that "THE football tie" had been put up for sale on eBay.
Ford wore the tie on Nov. 5, 2013, the day he first publicly admitted to having smoked crack cocaine.
That admission came days after police said they had obtained the so-called crack tape, which Ford had for months said did not exist while also denying he had used crack cocaine.
The admission amplified a scandal that made Ford's name known around the world.
Ford went on to run for re-election as mayor, but withdrew from the mayoral contest after being diagnosed with cancer. Instead, he ran for council and was elected in Ward 2.
That series of events has created the unusual situation where Ford is now part of the same council as Mayor John Tory.
