A paedophile who hacked into an 11-year-old girl’s computer to spy on her has been jailed for two years.

Robert Davies, 32, managed to access a number of devices and used them to build up a collection of indecent images of children and adults, the National Crime Agency (NCA) said.

Davies, from Nottingham, used fake online profiles on various messaging apps to trick victims and infected their phones and computers with malicious software to spy on them.

He also stole any sexual images that were stored on the devices and watched a girl via her webcam, creating more indecent images for his collection.

NCA officers arrested Davies three times over the course of their investigation, charging him with new offences as they discovered more evidence of his criminal activity.

More than 30 victims were contacted by the NCA, while over 27 indecent images and videos were discovered on Davies’ computer.

Davies pleaded guilty to 24 Computer Misuse Act offences, voyeurism, three counts of possessing indecent images of children, making indecent images of children and possessing extreme pornographic images in September last year.

He has now been sentenced to 26 months in prison and was also placed on the sex offenders’ register, given a 10-year restraining order on five of the victims and a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.

Andrew Shorrock, operations manager from the NCA’s National Cyber Crime Unit, said: “Davies had amassed what can only be described as a cyber criminal’s toolkit.

“Not only was he using these tools to break into people's devices, he was using them to spy on his unsuspecting victims and to steal naked images of them for his own sexual gratification.

“Even more disturbing is the fact that at least one of his victims was a teenager and we found a collection of images and videos of child sexual abuse on his computer.”
