Robyn Crawford Will 'Set the Record Straight' About Her Relationship with Whitney Houston in Memoir

Robyn Crawford — the lifelong friend and rumored love interest of the late Whitney Houston — has rarely spoken about the legendary singer. Now she’s writing about their life together in her upcoming book,

A Song for You: My Life with Whitney Houston

, which will release this fall.

The book will explore their friendship that began when they were kids in East Orange, New Jersey in the 1980s, the rise of Houston’s career, her disastrous marriage to Bobby Brown, and provide a candid look at Crawford and Houston’s relationship.

“Since Whitney’s death in 2012, [her] trusted and loyal friend, Robyn Crawford, has stayed out of the limelight and held the great joys, wild adventures, and hard truths of her life with Whitney close to her heart,” reads the book’s press release.

In A Song for You, Crawford, who served as Houston’s longtime confidante and executive assistant, “breaks her silence to share the moving and often complicated story of her life and relationship with Whitney.”

The singer, who struggled with drug use and died in 2012 at the age of 48, was believed to be in a romantic relationship with Crawford. Last year a documentary about Houston’s life, Whitney, delved further into their relationship. (Crawford has not commented and did not participate in the film.)

“I hope the film expresses what I think is the truth,” said director Kevin Macdonald, “that they were romantically involved. As a teen, Whitney ran from her mother’s house into the arms of Robyn.”

“Robyn loved Whitney,” Whitney’s longtime agent Nicole David told PEOPLE in 2018.

Now it’s time for Crawford to share her truth in A Song for You.

“Deeply personal and heartfelt, A Song for You is the vital, honest, and previously untold story that provides an understanding of the complex life of Whitney Houston,” reads the press release. “Finally, the person who knew her best sets the record straight.”
