Rockies great Todd Helton sentenced to two days in jail over 2019 DUI arrest

Colorado Rockies legend Todd Helton will serve two days in jail after a DUI arrest in 2019, according to Scott Gleeson of USA Today.

Helton, 46, was arrested in Tennessee last March after crashing his car into a pole. Helton was given a misdemeanor citation for driving under the influence. He said he took an Ambien earlier that day. The officer on duty said Helton was driving around with a cup in his car that smelled like alcohol.

Helton eventually pleaded guilty to first-offense DUI, according to USA Today.

Helton then pled guilty to a first-offense DUI, which gave him the sentence of 11 months and 29 days on unsupervised probation and suspended his license for one year. According to McDermott, Helton was also ordered to pay a $250 fine, attend a victim impact panel and serve "48 hours in custody."

While Helton pleaded guilty to “first-offense DUI,” it’s at least the second time he’s been arrested for DUI. Helton’s first DUI came prior to the 2013 season. He said it was the first time he was arrested for driving under the influence. He reportedly received treatment after both arrests.

Helton is regarded as one of the best Rockies of all time. He holds a .316/.414/.539 career slash line, was a five-time All Star and a three-time Gold Glove award winner.

Helton is entering his third year on the Hall of Fame ballot. He received 29.2 percent of the vote the last time around, but that was a significant boost from his first year on the ballot.
