Roddickton outfitter says low Canadian dollar attracts international hunters

A outfitter on the Northern Peninsula is almost booked up for the hunting season that won't start for another six months, adding the dropping Canadian dollar is helping to attract hunters from outside the province.

Trevor Pilgrim of Mayflower Outfitter Adventures in Roddickton brings in hunters from the United States and Europe.

He said the entire community benefits from American and European hunters that come to the region.

"I would say each person, once they get to Newfoundland and by the time they leave, the flight and all would probably be $10,000 for the whole trip."

Pilgrim is just back from a number of hunting trade shows in the U.S. where he says there is a lot of interest in moose and bear hunting in Newfoundland and Labrador.

He said business will be booming this year because of the dropping Canadian dollar, because it gives them more for their money.

"They get a better bang for their buck," he said.

"When it comes to the outfitters industry itself, its much better for the bottom line."
