Rolf Harris’s wife Alwen Hughes dies aged 93 one year after paedophile husband’s death
The wife of disgraced paedophile TV star Rolf Harris has died, aged 93, one year after her husband.
Alwen stood by Harris after he was sentenced to five years and nine months in jail for 12 indecent assaults on four underage girls between 1968 and 1986.
Former children’s entertainer Harris died with neck cancer on May 10 last year.
Alwen is believed to have spent her final days in the £7million mansion where the couple once lived together in Bray, Berkshire.
She died on August 15, the Mirror reported, and her death certificate states she died from a stroke after suffering with the the fragility of old age and vascular dementia.
Neighbours told MailOnline Alwen had spent her final years “bed bound with no quality of life” and said they had seen relatives coming to the house to pick up personal belongings.
She was married to Harris for 65 years before his death.
Alwen was born on December 26, 1931 in north London. She is said to have grown up in Wales.
The jeweller and sculptor, met Harris at art school, with the pair marrying in 1958.
She attended every day of Harris's initial trial alongside their daughter Bindi.
Paedophile Harris served nearly three years in prison before being released on licence in 2017, and lived a reclusive life afterwards before his death.
