Rolling Stones: 'Normal People' star Paul Mescal dances in tight tank in new 'Scarlet' video

It's not a bad time to be Paul Mescal.

Last week, the dreamy Irish actor received an Emmy nomination for best actor in a limited series for steamy new Hulu drama "Normal People," adapted from Sally Rooney's 2018 novel. And now he stars in the Rolling Stones' latest music video for "Scarlet," which was released online Thursday.

The video was filmed during a socially distanced shoot at London's Claridge's hotel, and directed by Chris Barrett and Luke Taylor (of directing duo Us). It starts with Mescal talking into a smartphone camera, recording a video for a woman named Scarlet.

"I'm a little bit drunk," he says, slurring. "I'm very sorry. I love you."

From there, Pescal dances around the messy hotel room in a tight white tank and black pants, swigging drinks, crying, rolling around on the bed and floor, and stumbling around as he mouths along to the song. He then runs down the hallway of the empty hotel, leaping down stairs and twirling around a vacant dining room.

"I thought you were gonna kill yourself when you jumped down the stairwell," frontman Mick Jagger said in a virtual Q&A with Mescal before the video's premiere.

"So did I," laughed Mescal, who had never shot a music video before "Scarlet." It was like jumping "off the deep end. Just go straight in, start with a Rolling Stones music video and best of luck!"

"Scarlet" is a previously unheard Stones track featuring guitarist Jimmy Page and late Blind Faith bassist Ric Grech. The song is included on the Stones' upcoming reissue of 1973 album "Goats Head Soup," out Sept. 4.

The remastered "Goats Head Soup" box set and deluxe editions will all feature 10 bonus tracks, including "Scarlet," the recently released "Criss Cross," and a third newly unearthed song, “All The Rage." All three songs were recorded more than 40 years ago, but were never officially released until now.

"Goats Head Soup" was the Stones' 13th studio album in the U.S. and was their last collaboration with producer Jimmy Miller, the man responsible for Stones' albums such as "Let It Bleed" (1969) and "Sticky Fingers" (1971). "Goats Head Soup" spawned the hit "Angie," which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, along with Top 20 single “Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)."
