Rollover crash on Deerfoot Trail leaves woman seriously injured

A woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries early Monday morning after the car she was driving rolled over on Deerfoot Trail.

The single-car accident happened in the southbound lanes just before the Calf Robe Bridge.

"As the car neared Peigan Trail, it drove off the roadway to the right and onto the soft shoulder where it struck the sloped end of the barrier on the right shoulder. The soft ground caused the car to tip and roll over, landing on the roadway," the police traffic unit said in a release.

The 36-year-old woman, who was alone in the Pontiac G6, was taken to Foothills Medical Centre with multiple traumatic and internal injuries, EMS spokesman Adam Loria said in a release.

Southbound traffic was reduced to one lane for several hours.

It's not believed alcohol was a factor.
