Ron Burgundy brings classy to curling event in Winnipeg

Ron Burgundy is coming to Winnipeg — don’t act like you’re not impressed.

The fictional 1980s anchorman, played by actor Will Ferrell, declared during a commercial on Sunday's Grey Cup broadcast that he will add colour to TSN’s coverage at Roar of the Rings.

"Winnipeg, get ready to paint the town Burgundy," the titan of broadcast news stated in the spot, adding, "this is going to end …terribly."

The Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings, which is the Canadian Olympic curling trials for men and women, takes place Dec. 1 at the MTS Centre.

Burgundy, made famous in the 2004 movie Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, will be a special correspondent during the opening ceremonies and organizers are still working on other possible events.

"It's absolutely going to be fantastic," said Rob Dewhist, vent manager for Roar of the Rings.

"I think it's something that everybody can enjoy and the Ron Burgundy character is fun. It's just, that's what it's all about."

Dewhist believes the growing popularity of curling deserves the spotlight Burgundy brings.

"I think it kind of fits the profile of what we've said about the athletes all along. It's a great curling event and now our profile's even larger," he said.
