Roommate charged with murder after stabbing victim found lying in the street
Police have laid charges in connection with a fatal stabbing in southeast Calgary early Tuesday morning when a man with apparent stab wounds was found lying on the street.
Shortly after 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, while responding to a call in Lynnwood, police found the victim, 26-year-old Ismail Charanek. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
After investigators could not locate Charanek's roommate, 24-year-old Eddy Nakasenh-Bandasak, they sought help from the public to locate him.
On Wednesday, patrol officers on an unrelated call spotted Nakasenh-Bandasak, who fled before they were able to take him into custody.
As Nakasenh-Bandasak was spotted in the community of Patterson Heights near a wooded area, the police mounted unit was deployed, along with the canine unit. Nakasenh-Bandasak was located and arrested shortly after.
"Homicide investigations often require significant co-ordination of resources across our service," said Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta of the homicide unit in a release.
"These investigations are a priority for us, and the fact that we were able to lay a charge in this case so quickly, in a week when we had two other suspicious deaths, is a testament to how well our people work together."
Police said they believe the stabbing took place after Nakasenh-Bandasak and Charanek became involved in an argument.
Nakasenh-Bandasak has been charged with second-degree murder and is set to appear in court on Sept. 30.
