If you'd ever wondered what happened to Ross' monkey Marcel from Friends, it turns out he (or rather she) is still working hard.

The monkey – who is actually a female called Katie – is appearing in a new TV adaptation of graphic novel Y: The Last Man opposite actor Barry Keoghan (below).

A monkey is of course necessary to the plot, as the comic book is set in a post-androcide world and focuses on characters Yorick Brown and his pet Capuchin, Ampersand.

There, they try to find out why the male population of the world has been wiped out, being the last two male mammals to have survived.

FX CEO John Landgraf first noticed the monkey while looking at preview footage from the upcoming show.

"I recognise Jennifer Aniston, I recognise Courteney Cox and I recognise that monkey!" he said (via The Hollywood Reporter). "There's nothing like a really experienced actor who knows how to hit their marks!"

Katie has only filmed a pilot so far – and it's unclear as to whether she will return or will be replaced by CGI for the full series but here's hoping she's front and centre.

While Marcel Katie is thankfully keeping busy, she probably won't be working with David Schwimmer again, as Friends star Matt LeBlanc recently revealed that the Ross actor was not a fan of his monkey companion.

"I liked the monkey!" he said. "I like animals, and the monkey was really cool. Schwimmer… Not so much. He's the one that had to work with it the most, so he was like, 'Again with the monkey?' But I got along great with it."
