Year-round school being mulled in Langley, B.C.

The school district in Langley, B.C., is considering moving to a year-round calendar, which would include three one-month breaks.

The district is also considering extending winter and spring breaks to three weeks and shrinking the summer break, or leaving the schedule the way it is.

Superintendent Suzanne Hoffman says lots a lot of parents prefer the status quo, but there may be something to the new schemes.

"If we can make a positive difference in the lives of children, why would we not at least engage in that dialogue to see if there are some ways we can improve?"

The district is running surveys on the subject through February. The school calendar is set at a meeting in March.

If District #35 decides to change the school calendar, the change wouldn’t go into effect until the 2014-15 school year.
