Royal baby: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry called 'selfish' for how they told the royal family

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting!

The couple, who got married back in May, announced on Monday morning through Kensington Palace that they're expecting their first child together, due in the spring of 2019.

"Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public," the announcement said.

With the news that Markle is thought to be about 12 weeks pregnant, fans of the royal family were wondering how the beloved couple shared the news with the rest of the royals, and the Daily Mail's royal correspondent, Rebecca English, reported after the reveal that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex actually informed their relatives just days ago -- at Princess Eugenie's wedding to Jack Brooksbank.

"Harry and Meghan told the Royal Family at Eugenie's wedding on Friday," she tweeted.

English, who has been known to break revealing scoop about the British royals, received a ton of responses after she tweeted out the detail -- with a lot of users calling the couple out for the timing of their reveal.

"How selfish of them drawing attention away from the bride and groom on their special day," someone said. "Exactly my thoughts! But that is Meghan all over! Attention attention attention!!!" another person replied.

"Classy," one user replied sarcastically. "Couldn't let someone else have the attention just once."

Perhaps adding fuel to the fire, confirmation that Meghan is expecting her first child comes on the heels of intense speculation that she was pregnant that was prompted by her covered-up Givenchy outfit at the wedding, which took place at St. George's Chapel inside of Windsor Castle, the same place she married Harry back in May.

On Monday, others came to Meghan and Harry's defense amid the reveal, noting that people would've noticed that Meghan wasn't drinking at Eugenie's wedding reception on Friday night.

"I'm thinking she HAD to tell people then," one follower chimed in. "No drinking at a reception that's open bar? It would've been obvious. I'm really happy for them and I'm sure the royal family is as well."

And, regardless of criticism, most of the reaction to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's announcement on Monday was purely supportive, with many wishing the happy couple best wishes as they prepare for parenthood. They're currently on their first major royal tour in Australia.
