Lady Susan Hussey, 83, who is a godmother to Prince William, served the late Queen for more than 60 years. During her time in the role, the palace aide was reportedly directed by Buckingham Palace to help the Duchess of Sussex settle into royal life prior to and after her wedding to Prince Harry, according to Tom Bower, author of Revenge: Meghan, Harry And The War Between The Windsors.
The book also claims she took a dim view of the marriage. Chelsea Ritschel reports.

The timing of Harry & Meghan’s Netflix trailer is so perfect, it almost seems deliberate
Thursday 1 December 2022 17:13 , Oliver O'Connell
In a new comment piece, The Independent’s Louis Chilton writes:
“Netflix’s documentary has long been teased as Harry and Meghan’s defiant rebuke to the suffocating influence of The Firm. But other than a few juicy specifics, it is unlikely to tell us too much more than what she has already disclosed, and what we should already know to be true. (Reports surfaced, for instance, that Harry and Meghan had sought to soften some of the documentary’s revelations out of respect for the Queen’s death).
“What it will do is chip away at the wall of impunity that has always surrounded the royals, piece by piece.”

William and Kate shown how Boston is coping with rising sea levels
Thursday 1 December 2022 21:37 , Oliver O'Connell
The Prince and Princess of Wales’s final afternoon engagement involved learning about the significant climate challenges that Boston faces. William and Kate have travelled to east Boston to see the changing face of the city’s shoreline as it contends with rising sea levels.
At Piers Park, the royal couple are being shown the past, present, and future of Boston’s waterfront as guests of Mayor Michelle Wu. They are joined by representatives from key environmental organisations including Boston Harbor Now, Stone Living Lab, the Trustees of Reservations, and The Harborkeepers.
Innovative climate resilience solutions are being deployed to protect East Boston, an environmental justice community, from rising sea levels. Members of the community shared their experiences of the neighbourhood’s vulnerability to climate change-caused flooding and storm surges.
One aspect that will be highlighted to the prince and princess will be how transformative projects along the shoreline can best mitigate the risks of climate change while promoting equity among the diverse residents of east Boston.
Boston Harbor Now’s Stone Living Lab, which researches and tests nature-based ecological restoration solutions around Boston’s waterfront, is announcing an ambitious collaboration with Earthshot 2021 Finalist, Living Seawalls.
The company designs panels that mimic natural habitat formations like rock pools and mangrove roots that can be fitted to new or existing waterfront infrastructure to promote marine biodiversity. Two sites along Boston Harbor will have such panels installed in the coming months.

US President Joe Biden is set to meet William and Kate in Boston as they visit the US for the first time in eight years.
“The president intends to greet the Prince and Princess of Wales when he is in Boston,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Wednesday.
The royals’ press team also confirmed that the meeting would occur.
Mr Biden’s schedule indicated that the meeting would take place at the John F Kennedy Library and Museum.
Ms Jean-Pierre said the White House was “still finalizing and working through the details” and didn’t go into further detail about the meeting.
The administration previously announced that Mr Biden would be in the city to attend a Democratic fundraiser.
William and Kate are in the US to attend the Earthshot Prize Ceremony, which gives $1m to projects aiming to solve climate problems by 2030.
“Like President Kennedy, Catherine and I firmly believe that we all have it in ourselves to achieve great things and that human beings have the ability to lead, innovate and problem solve,” William said at Boston City Hall.

Friday 2 December 2022 15:45 , Gustaf Kilander
Sources close to Prince William and Princess Kate have nicknamed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “the Kardashians” in a sharp response to the trailer for their new Netflix documentary series.
The Times report that “royal insiders” believe that Harry and Meaghan “deliberately torpedoed” William and Kate’s visit to the US by allowing the streaming giant to release the first look of the documentary during the US visit.
According to the paper, William and Kate’s trip was “derailed for the second day running by external events”.
On Wednesday, the big royal news story was the resignation of royal household member Lady Susan Hussey following her “unacceptable and deeply regrettable comments” to a Black charity boss.

A source close to William and Kate told The Times that Harry and Meaghan had been nicknamed “the Kardashians” because “they want all the attention they can possibly get”.
“They are two people who are accepting awards for themselves, talking about themselves, doing programmes about themselves,” the source said, adding that William and Kate are “active members of the royal family who have a job to shine a spotlight on other people, give awards to other people. That’s the contrast”.
William and Kate source says Harry and Meaghan’s timing of trailer release was ‘definitely deliberate'
Friday 2 December 2022 16:45 , Gustaf Kilander
One source close to William and Kate told The Times that the timing of Harry and Meaghan’s documentary trailer release was “definitely deliberate, without any question. But not at all unexpected”.
The paper reported that the feeling among the group surrounding William and Kate was “one of resignation, even amusement, rather than anger”.
A source told the Daily Mail that it was “hard not to make the comparison” to the Kardashians.
“One can only conclude this is a concerted publicity drive on their behalf to stoke up interest in this documentary and is designed to clash with the Wales’ visit this week,” another source told The Mail.
“The prince and princess’ high-profile trip to the States to shine a light on community projects in Boston and the environmental crisis is being apparently used as a platform for the Sussexes to create the drama and attention they so clearly crave on a personal level, as well as content for the multi-million dollar deal they have signed since quitting as working royals,” the source added. “While the Waleses will carry on with their duties, Team Sussex appears determined to remind America of their own ‘compassionate activism’—one lucrative contract at a time.”

Prince William, like his father, prioritizes the environment
Friday 2 December 2022 19:00 , The Associated Press
Prince William became heir apparent less than three months ago, but he has already been crowned Britain’s chief environmentalist.
On a three-day trip to Boston with Kate, the Princess of Wales, William is drawing praise for his efforts to draw attention to pollution and climate change and the need to scale up solutions to address them. Those efforts will culminate Friday evening, when the five winners of the royal couple’s Earthshot Prize for environmental innovators will be announced.
“I just appreciate that they are using platform and publicity to bring attention to meaningful climate work,” said Joe Christo, managing director of Stone Living Lab, which researches nature-based approaches to climate adaptation and was among those who met the royal couple at Boston Harbor on Thursday.
“I do know his dad is a big environmentalist,” he said. “He seems to be doing a great job continuing that legacy.”
The Earthshot Prize offers 1 million pounds ($1.2 million) in prize money to each of the winners of five separate categories: nature protection, clean air, ocean revival, waste elimination and climate change. The winners and all 15 finalists also receive help in expanding their projects to meet global demand.

Meghan Markle has been seen boarding a private jet in Indianapolis after appearing at a female empowerment event in the city.
Fox News Digital obtained video footage of the Duchess of Sussex arriving outside a hanger before boarding the aircraft.
Both the duchess and her husband Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, are vocal environmental activists and have proclaimed through Archewell, the organisation they founded, that they will achieve net-zero emissions by the end of the decade.
The duke’s brother and sister-in-law, Prince William and his wife Kate, are currently in Boston for the Earthshot Prize awards which encourage innovation in sustainability and tackling climate change.
The Prince and Princess of Wales made headlines of their own when they flew to the US from London and were pictured flying on a commercial British Airways flight.

William and Kate pictured at rehearsals for Earthshot Prize awards ceremony
Saturday 3 December 2022 00:00 , Toby Jones
The Prince and Princess of Wales have been pictured behind the scenes during rehearsals for the Earthshot Prize being staged in the US city of Boston.
William’s environmental awards will see singer Billie Eilish lead a stellar entertainment line-up during a ceremony – dubbed the prince’s “world cup” moment – that aims to celebrate and scale up environmental solutions to repair the planet.
Former England and Manchester United footballer David Beckham will present one of the five awards, with each category winner receiving £1 million to develop their project.
Ahead of the event being staged on Friday evening at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway, the prince is due to meet US President Joe Biden.
But the couple’s three-day trip to Boston, which ends on Friday, has been overshadowed by the race row that saw William’s godmother Lady Susan Hussey resign as a royal aide after she repeatedly questioned a prominent black British-born domestic abuse charity boss about where she “really came from”.

Ahead of the Earthshot Prize ceremony, Prince William’s meeting in Boston with US president Joe Biden was met with around 100 protesters hurling abuse at the two men.
The protesters could be heard shouting abusive slogans such as “F*** the royal family” and “Joe Biden is a scab” as the men met at the John F Kennedy Presidential Library in the city.
The protest came after a vote in the US Senate that overrided rail union complaints and rejected giving workers seven days of sick leave.

Graham Norton skewers Prince William’s godmother over racism scandal
Graham Norton took aim at the royal family during the opening of his show on Friday when he showed the audience a photo of the Prince and Princess of Wales attending a Boston Celtics basketball game.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled and fascinated if I were Prince William looking at a basketball,” Norton said in front of the photo, which showed William looking perplexed at the ball.
“Has he never seen one before? It’s like his godmother talking to a Black person,” Norton joked, in reference to the palace’s recent racism scandal involving Lady Susan Hussey, who repeatedly challenged charity founder Ngozi Fulani about where she came from after she told her she was British.

The Princess of Wales wore Princess Diana’s emerald and choker necklace to the Earthshot Prize awards in a moment people are calling the “revenge choker”.
The choker, which is believed to be worth more than $15m, was given to Diana by the Queen who inherited it herself from her grandmother, Queen Mary.
The diamond and emerald choker was last worn by Diana on her 36th birthday.
Royal fans on social media have dubbed Kate’s jewelry choice her “revenge choker,” considering Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released the trailer for their Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, just one day prior.

The New York Times interviewed Bostonians about Prince William and Princess Kate’s trip to the city, and social media is less than surprised by their unenthusaistic reactions.
“I said to my wife this morning, ‘I put my pants on the same way he does – why is he so special?’” said one Boston local about Prince William.
“I can’t talk about them because I’ll get mad,” another Dorchester woman said.
One woman waiting for her order at typical Boston Dunkin’ declined to talk to a reporter, until she asked what the story was about. When they informed her the story was about William and Kate’s trip to Boston, she said: “Don’t care.”
“The quotes from this article about how little people in Boston care about Will and Kate’s royal visit there are sending me,” tweeted one user.

How green is William and Kate’s Boston royal tour?

The third and final day of William and Kate’s visit to Boston will culminate in the glitzy Earthshot awards ceremony this evening with $1.2million prizes going to a new generation of innovators to help scale their climate-fighting solutions.
Among the finalists are a company which captures planet-heating carbon emissions and stores them in rocks; one which replaces wasteful plastic packaging with a seaweed alternative, and a “greenhouse-in-a-box” concept for smallhold farmers.
But how does the royal tour’s own eco-credentials shape up?

New role gives William opportunity to speak out on the environment
Saturday 3 December 2022 04:00 , Meredith Clark
Now that he is king, Charles is expected to be more careful with his words and must stay out of politics and government policy, in accordance with the traditions of Britain’s constitutional monarchy. This year, he did not attend the U.N. climate conference in Egypt.
The caution presents an opportunity for William to step into that role as the royal family’s environmental advocate and speak more forcefully about the issues once associated with his father.
There is no better example than the Earthshot Prize.
“It’s a huge deal to Prince William,” Joe Little, the managing editor of Majesty Magazine. “He knows he can attract attention from the most important people. That really is the core of the Boston trip.”
After attending a welcome event Wednesday at City Hall and then a Boston Celtics game, the royal couple spent much of Thursday hearing about the threats of climate change and solutions in the works.
William: I want to supercharge Earthshot impact to inspire ‘despairing world’
Saturday 3 December 2022 05:00 , Meredith Clark
The Prince of Wales has declared he wants to “supercharge” the impact of his Earthshot Prize finalists to inspire a “despairing world” that there is a way forward.
William described himself as a “stubborn optimist” in an article published a few hours before the awards ceremony for his environmental prize, being staged in the US city of Boston, was due to begin.
Global star Billie Eilish will lead a stellar entertainment line-up during a ceremony – dubbed the prince’s “world cup” moment – that aims to celebrate and scale up environmental solutions to repair the planet.
Former England and Manchester United footballer David Beckham will present one of the five awards with each category winner receiving £1 million to develop their project.
Writing in the Huffington Post, the future King said about the finalists: “The Earthshot Prize wants to find the best of them. We want to celebrate and support them, so that we not only supercharge their positive impact but also demonstrate to a despairing world that there is an optimistic way forward.

William and Kate sources nickname Meghan and Harry the ‘Kardashians’ in sharp response to Netflix trailer
Saturday 3 December 2022 06:00 , Meredith Clark
Sources close to Prince William and Princess Kate have apparently nicknamed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “the Kardashians” in a sharp response to the trailer for their new Netflix documentary series.
The Times report that “royal insiders” believe that Harry and Meghan “deliberately torpedoed” William and Kate’s visit to the US by allowing the streaming giant to release the first look of the documentary during the US visit.
William and Kate’s trip was “derailed for the second day running by external events,” the outlet said.
On Wednesday, the big royal news story was the resignation of royal household member Lady Susan Hussey following her “unacceptable and deeply regrettable comments” to a Black charity boss.
A source told The Times that Harry and Meghan had been nicknamed “the Kardashians” because “they want all the attention they can possibly get”.

VOICES: Don’t excuse racism from old people – we’re not all like Lady Hussey
Saturday 3 December 2022 07:00 , Meredith Clark
The Independent’s recent story of the royal racism row over “unacceptable and deeply regrettable comments” made to a Black advocate for survivors of domestic abuse is both shocking and surprising.
The resignation of the late Queen’s lady-in-waiting, Lady Susan Hussey, over reported racist comments is not surprising. These sort of comments are completely unacceptable. The most extraordinary thing is the avalanche of ageism it has unleashed, with the hashtag #Shes83 trending on Twitter – that seems to have people assuming most older people are racist.
I’m in my seventies – and it is deeply offensive to classify people as having racist views just because they are old. At Action For Elders, our motto is #ThinkDifferentlyAboutAgeing and for many years we have fought very hard against age-related stereotypes.

He won the Earthshot Prize fr the category “Fix Our Climate”.

Twitter calls out Earthshot Prize for flying celebrities to awards ceremony, but not the winners
Saturday 3 December 2022 15:30 , Kate Ng
Some people have called out the Earthshot Prize for having celebrities, as well as Prince William and Princess Kate, flown to Boston for the glitzy award ceremony - but not the winners.
The ceremony, which was attended by famous faces such as David Beckham, Ellie Goulding, Rami Malek, Chloe and Halle Bailey, and Annie Lennox, saw the five Earthshot Prize winners accepting their awards from their home countries via video link.
According to The Telegraph, the finalists were filmed on their home turf in order to “reduce the carbon footprint” of the event.
But social media users have criticised the royal couple and the event for not getting them to the event to accept their £1m prize in person. It is unclear if all the finalists were invited to do so or declined.
One person wrote: “So William and Kate flew in celebrities, but the actual recipients of the awards who actually do the work for the environment had to be on video?”
Another branded the awards ceremony a “complete waste of time” and a “vanity project” for the Prince and Princess of Wales. They added: “Where were the actual winners of this award?! Oh right, back home, not even invited to the ceremony that was supposedly celebrating their innovations. How insulting!”
