Rudy Giuliani calls police on Sacha Baron Cohen after being pranked in fake coronavirus interview

Sacha Baron Cohen has enacted another elaborate prank at the expense of former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, just weeks after he reportedly infiltrated a far-right rally in Washington.

Mr Giuliani went to Mark Hotel in Manhattan on Tuesday, for what he thought was a "serious" interview, he told the New York Post's Page Six.

At first, a woman sat down with the former mayor and asked him a few "softball" questions, but then Mr Cohen appeared.

Giuliani said: “This guy comes running in, wearing a crazy, what I would say was a pink transgender outfit. It was a pink bikini, with lace, underneath a translucent mesh top, it looked absurd. He had the beard, bare legs, and wasn’t what I would call distractingly attractive.”

Believing it was either a “scam or a shake-down", he ended up calling the police on bikini-wearing prankster Mr Cohen, as he didn't immediately recognise the "screaming and yelling" actor.

According to witnesses, Mr Cohen ran from the Mark Hotel wearing a bathrobe, and although the police did arrive, he was not apprehended.

Later, Mr Giuliani told Page Six: "I thought about all the people he previously fooled and I felt good about myself because he didn’t get me".

The former New York City mayor added: “I am a fan of some of his movies, ‘Borat’ in particular, because I’ve been to Kazakhstan. [Adopting a Borat accent, Guiliani repeats a famous line from the movie] ‘She is my sister. She is number four prostitute in all of Kazakhstan.’ That was pretty funny.”

Just a few weeks ago, the comedian, best known for characters including Ali G and Borat, disguised himself as a bluegrass singer as he crashed the Three Percenters gathering, according to local reports.

Allegedly he led the audience in a "racist sing-a-long", encouraging the crowd to chant along to lyrics about liberals getting “chopped up” or “injected with the Wuhan flu.”

The event organisers said Mr Cohen at first claimed to be head of a political action committee that wished to sponsor the rally, and he hired his own security staff so he could not be removed from the stage.

It was speculated the stunt could have been for a new season of Mr Cohen's showtime comedy "Who is America?", but the network has not commented.
