Russia’s main offensive forces are concentrated in the direction of the cities of Kurakhove and Pokrovsk, Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi wrote on Facebook on May 6, admitting the situation complexity in this sector, where he spent the last two days inspecting defensive positions.

"It is here that the main enemy attack forces are concentrated, trying to break through the defenses of our troops and, building on their success, reach the large settlements of Kurakhove and Pokrovsk,” he said, adding that the initial superiority in the number of soldiers, weapons, and equipment allows the enemy to launch daily attacks on Ukrainian positions.

"Our task in these conditions is to hold the lines and positions, to inflict maximum losses on the enemy, to exhaust it, thereby disrupting its plans and gaining time to form and prepare our reserves."

Syrskyi also stressed the importance of unit commanders being present on the battlefield to maintain the morale, resilience, and confidence of their subordinates, and advised against leading the battle from several kilometers away due to the high intensity of the fighting and the risk to soldiers' lives.
