Russia committing 'genocide' in Ukraine, Canada's Parliament unanimously votes

The Canadian House of Commons on Wednesday unanimously voted to recognize the actions of the Russian military and of Russian President Vladimir Putin during the ongoing invasion of Ukraine as “genocide”. NDP MP Heather McPherson put forward a motion seeking support for that proposal following question period in the House of Commons, and MPs from all parties voted in favour of the motion. The motion is not binding and does not carry direct consequences under broader international law, where the definition of "genocide" is laid out by the United Nations and its International Criminal Court.
