Ryan Seacrest Has His First On-Screen Slip Up on “Wheel of Fortune”
The television personality made his 'WOF' debut on Sept. 9 alongside Vanna White after taking over for Pat Sajak following his retirement
Ryan Seacrest is still experiencing firsts on Wheel of Fortune — including his first mistake!
On the Friday, Oct. 4 episode, the game show cohost has his first on-screen slip up. After winning the week-long BetMGM Big Winners Tournament, contestant Cody Hunger moved on to the bonus round and chose to solve one last puzzle in the "phrase" category.
Hunger spun the wheel and chose additional letters "C,D,Y,O," the letters making up his first name, to help him solve the four-word puzzle. With 10 seconds to win the $94,900 jackpot, Hunger correctly guessed the phrase "out of the way" but Seacrest took a few seconds to pause before acknowledging his win.
His co-host Vanna White even broke into a big smile and clapped at Hunger's victory until Seacrest exclaimed, "Cody? That's it."
Hunger breathed a sigh of relief and threw his head back as he reacted to the happy news and the completed puzzle filled the screen.
“You got it! Congratulations,” the television personality continued as confetti burst and Hunger's friends joined him on stage to celebrate the news.
Seacrest made his Wheel of Fortune debut on Sept. 9 alongside White after taking over for Pat Sajak following his retirement.
"Welcome to Wheel of Fortune. I am your host, Ryan Seacrest," he began in his inaugural episode. "I still can't believe my luck being here with you tonight to continue this legacy of this incredible show with all of you and of course, my good friend, Vanna White."
As he thanked the live audience for their "very warm welcome," Seacrest went on to admit that "hosting Wheel of Fortune is a dream job."

"I've been a fan of this show since I was a kid, watching in Atlanta with my family, and I know how special it is that Wheel has been in your living rooms for the past 40 years, and I'm just so grateful to be invited in," he gushed. "I also know I've got some very big shoes to fill, so let's play Wheel of Fortune!"
Eventually, contestant Terry stole the show and ended up winning $25,849 in cash and prizes. Before throwing to commercial break, Seacrest thanked Terry for "being here on my first night" and being a "pleasure to hang out with" during the historic taping.
