Ryan Seacrest Gets Emotional Over Carrie Underwood's 'American Idol' Return
It's time to meet your newest American Idol judge, and it's none other than Carrie Underwood!
Back in 2005, the country superstar made headlines for winning season 4 of the hit singing competition series. At the time, Carrie was known for being from her hometown of Checotah, Oklahoma, and was looking to make it in the music industry. Carrie not only managed to claim the coveted title of her entire season, she has since built up her working catalog to include Grammy Awards, Guinness World Records and even a Las Vegas residency.
Well, now Carrie can now add one more accolade to her ever-growing résumé: American Idol judge. That's right — she's coming home to the stage where she got her musical start! The show dropped the incredible news on Instagram on August 1, revealing she'll replace Katy Perry and join Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie as the trio of judges for the 2025 TV season.
Shortly after the big announcement, American Idol host Ryan Seacrest got emotional about how proud he is to have Carrie back on the show and make other aspiring artists' dreams come true.
"It’s a full-circle moment to go from announcing you as the winner of @americanidol 20 years ago to now welcoming you to the judge’s table," he wrote alongside a throwback photo of when Carrie won on Instagram. "Welcome home, @carrieunderwood!"
Upon seeing Ryan's sweet tribute to Carrie, the singer couldn't help but voice how happy she is for her new gig in the comments.
"Thank you Ryan! Excited to be coming back home! ❤️," she replied.
What's more, fans were equally thrilled about Carrie returning to the American Idol stage in a new capacity.
"Couldn't have picked a better judge! She'll be amazing," one person wrote. "Oh this is sooooo wonderful. Full circle for sure and perfect for the contestants to see the possibilities of their future!" another agreed. "That is fantastic! She is the perfect choice! Cannot wait to see the two of you, Luke and Lionel this season!" a different follower added.
As for how Carrie will fare as a judge on American Idol, we'll just have to wait and see. But we can't wait to see her rapport with Ryan and have her back home again!
