Sacha Baron Cohen has reportedly filmed a feature-length sequel to Borat in secret.

The original 2006 film saw Cohen go undercover in the guise of Kazakhstani buffoon Borat as he traversed the US making a “documentary”.

Many of the film’s scenes featured interactions with non-actors who were unaware of Cohen’s real identity.

The film’s massive box office success led many people to believe that a sequel would be impossible to film in the same way.

However, according to Collider, Cohen has already completed the follow-up, and the film has even been screened for a “select few” industry executives.

Apparently, the film will see the character of Borat go “undercover” to interview members of the public, with his own profile rendering him too recognisable.

There is some speculation that Borat 2 will be released around the end of the year, possibly before the US presidential election in November.

Earlier this year, the actor and comedian had been photographed wearing his familiar Borat disguise, which prompted rumours that a planned Borat project was in the works.

However, until the report in Collider, it’s not been known whether this would take the form of a film or TV series, or what stage of production the project was in.

Since Borat, Cohen has starred in a number of comedies in the same vein, including Bruno and Showtime series Who is America.
