He said he was done with the restaurant business. But he’s giving it one more try.
Joseph Fowler is nothing if not persistent.
Now, the founder of Electric Pizzeria — who has tried his concept in several locations around town over the past several years — has a new idea.
His wife Jacqueline’s Mad Boba Gallery, which she opened at 1500 E. Douglas in February and envisioned as a part boba shop, part gallery to give local artists a place to sell their work, didn’t perform like she’d hoped, he said. She couldn’t find enough artists who wanted to participate, and the couple closed Mad Boba on Saturday.
But now, the duo has new plans for the space.
On Wednesday, Fowler plans to relaunch his Electric Pizzeria, which most recently operated at Maple and West but closed in October.
He also plans to continue serving Mad Boba’s boba drinks, tea and espresso from the same spot.
Additionally, he said, he’ll be operating his new print shop, Fowler Imaging — which specializes in T-shirts, custom embroidery and signs — out of the space. It will consist of an embroidery machine and some large printers.
The space also will have room for dine-in customers: Fowler said he’ll be able to seat between 16 and 20 people.
Fowler said he’s tried to simplify the menu and is offering one price for specialty pizzas and one price for cheese pizzas. All the specialty or cauliflower crust pizzas will be $14.99, and cheese pizzas will be $8.99. Extra toppings are $2 apiece.
The changes will “make it as easy and fast for the customers and our employees as possible,” Fowler said.
Electric Pizzeria’s hours will be 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. It will be closed Sundays and Mondays.
In October, Fowler quietly closed his Electric Pizzeria restaurant at Maple and West, which originally opened in 2018, and said he thought he was done with the restaurant business. Back in June 2021, he’d also opened a second Electric Pizza location in the former Pizza Hut building at Central and Tyler but decided it was too close to his other pizza restaurant and changed it to T’Geaux Cajun in late November of that year. But it closed a few months later, and the space is now home to a Chick N Max.
Fowler said that his new Electric Pizzeria reincarnation will soon start offering delivery via GrubHub and DoorDash.
