Saint John neighbourhood hit by boil water order

A new water treatment plant and accompanying infrastructure for Saint John has been estimated at $220 million.

Saint John has issued a boil order for part of the Forest Hills area on the city’s east side after a contractor ruptured a pipeline.

Notices were hand-delivered on Wednesday to the affected customers in areas, including Vista Ridge, Candace Street, Lynn Avenue and Beverly Drive.

City officials say when the contractor ruptured the drinking water pipe near the Champlain Heights pump station on Wednesday.

The accident essentially shut off the water supply.

Water crews tried to use a temporary water line, but it did not provide enough pressure to reach higher elevations.

In order to supply the area with water, crews must return the repaired pipe to service and confirm it's free of pathogens and waterborne diseases.

The affected residents will not have water available for periods of time on Thursday as the repairs continue.

This is the third boil water order city hall has issued so far this year.
