Sale for Blairmore commercial development finalized

Local residents and travellers on Highway 3 passing Blairmore will soon have a new cluster of businesses available for their enjoyment.

The Municipality of Crowsnest Pass announced July 19 that over six acres of land at 10509 20th Ave. had been sold unconditionally to Westbridge Developers, based in Lethbridge.

The company has confirmed the former hospital site will soon be the home of Dairy Queen and Edo Japan restaurants, as well as a cannabis retailer and a Wyndham-branded hotel. Negotiations with other businesses are ongoing.

The development, says Mayor Blair Painter, is a “win for everybody.”

“I’m really excited about it,” he says. “We’ve been actively trying to sell this piece of property for a number of years. I just want to see it full. It’s a great opportunity, it’s highway commercial, and I’d definitely like to see it filled with businesses that would cater to visitors and residents.”

Though details are still developing, construction at the site could begin as early as October.
