Sammy Yatim: 1 year later, victim's father still haunted by questions
The father of Sammy Yatim, the 18-year-old fatally shot by Toronto police one year ago, says the questions surrounding his son's death continue to haunt him.
Nabil Yatim, released a statement today about the death of his son Sammy who was shot by police on an empty streetcar on July 27, 2013 — an incident captured on surveillance and cellphone video, on which nine shots can be heard following shouted commands to drop a knife.
Toronto Police Const. James Forcillo was committed to stand trial on a charge of second-degree murder.
Footage of the incident sparked a public outcry that led to marches in the streets of Toronto.
In his statement, Nabil Yatim says "no parent should have to live through what (he has) endured."
