Canada's unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic election was never going to be easy. The 36-day whirlwind campaign kicked off with many Canadians asking why they were even heading to the polls during a global crisis, but the Liberals pulled off a minority win, after a day of frustrations from long lines, miscommunications and site glitches.
Blockchain-based fantasy soccer game Sorare has raised $680 million in a funding round led by SoftBank, with players including ex-England international Rio Ferdinand and Spain's Gerard Pique also investing, the company said on Tuesday. Paris-based Sorare said the investment valued the company at $4.3 billion. OTTAWA — Canadians have chosen another minority Liberal government — almost identical to the one it replaced — to finish the fight against COVID-19 and rebuild the shattered economy. Precisely how stable a minority remains to be seen, as results were still trickling in and there were tight contests in dozens of ridings as the clock started running out on Monday night. There are also almost 800,000 mail-in ballots to be counted, starting Tuesday, which could yet change the preliminary results in
A CIA officer who was traveling with agency director William Burns to India this month reported symptoms consistent with Havana syndrome, CNN and the New York Times reported on Monday. Some 200 U.S. officials and family members have been sickened by Havana syndrome, a mysterious set of ailments that include migraines, nausea, memory lapses and dizziness. Last month, Vice President Kamala Harris delayed her arrival to Hanoi for three hours after the U.S. embassy there said someone had reported a health incident consistent with Havana syndrome.
Cryptocurrency prices bounced off 1-1/2 month lows on Tuesday as a heavy selloff overnight linked to concerns about a possible loan default by property developer China Evergrande eased slightly, but investors braced for more volatility. Bitcoin, the biggest and the best known cryptocurrency, traded around $43,000, recovering from a fall to $40,192 earlier in the session. Global markets started the week on a turbulent note after fears that Evergrande's troubles could lead to a fallout for the Chinese and global economies prompted a selloff in riskier assets.

In a Facebook plea for civility, Winkler police Chief Ryan Hunt wrote his community is better than the hostility taking hold in response to the provincial public health orders. Hunt took aim at residents who say they'll interfere with officials trying to enforce the rules, which range from mask mandates to proof-of-vaccination cards. He said he's dis

NEW YORK (Reuters) -Investors unnerved by the fallout from heavily indebted Chinese real estate company Evergrande were gauging the potential for a wider shakeout after a selloff hit stocks around the world. For now, many U.S.-based investors believe there is little chance that the woes of Evergande, China’s second-largest property developer, could morph into a systemic crisis reminiscent of the 2008 collapse of Lehman Brothers. Still, with valuations on U.S. equities stretched on a historical basis and an unwind of the Federal Reserve’s easy money policies looming, some worry that a sudden drop in risk appetite could leave global markets vulnerable to a broader selloff.
Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole started this campaign by introducing himself to the country as a more moderate Tory. So far, the results suggest Canadians didn't buy into the message in a big way. Nevertheless, O'Toole stood by his approach during his concession speech and warned disappointed party members that another snap election could be coming soon. "In the months ahead, as Mr. Trudeau gears up for yet another election, we must continue this journey to welcome more Canadians to take anothe

Giuffre's lawyers previously said they also served Andrew, who is Queen Elizabeth's second son, in Britain.
The sequoias dubbed the Four Guardsmen remain unscathed by the so-called KNP Complex fire, which was ignited by lightning earlier this month and has grown in recent days in the Sequoia National Park's Giant Forest. "As far as damage to any specific sequoia trees, the older growth ones, there is none so far," KNP Complex fire spokesperson Mark Garrett said of the Guardsman and the nearby General Sherman, the world's largest tree. The huge Guardsmen trees mark the entrance to the Giant Forest, a grove of some 2,000 sequoias.
