Sanchez Clarke, Kingsley Downey released on bail in kidnapping, assault case

Two men charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman after a house party in Nova Scotia's Hants County have been released on bail.

Sanchez Lemar Clarke of Halifax and Kingsley Cornell Downey of North Preston appeared in Windsor provincial court on Friday morning.

They were both released on $5,000 sureties.

Clarke must live with his grandfather and Downey must stay with his father in Cole Harbour. They're only allowed to leave home to go to work, church, attend court or for medical emergencies.

Both men agreed to stay away from alcohol, not to possess firearms and stay in the province. They must also not have any contact with nine people associated with the case.

Police say the woman was at a house party over the weekend in Three Mile Plains, when two men forced her into a vehicle. She says they took her to a remote location and sexually assaulted her.

The woman says afterward, then returned her to the house where the party had been.

Clarke and Downey are due back in court Sept. 25. Neither the Crown nor the defence would comment on the case.
