Sandra Giesbrecht, mom charged with abducting her kids, appears in court

Sandra Giesbrecht, accused of abducting children, denied bail

Sandra Giesbrecht, the Winnipeg mother accused of abducting her two children and fleeing police last month, appeared in court for her bail hearing today.

The 44-year-old, wearing a grey sweatsuit, waved and smiled at friends and family members as she entered the courtroom in Winnipeg on Tuesday afternoon.

After Crown and defence lawyers presented their cases, provincial court Chief Judge Margaret Wiebe said there was too much information for her to make a decision right away. Giesbrecht will be back in court Aug. 10.

The nine-year-old boy and 11-year-old girl were found with Giesbrecht on June 24, four days after they were last seen leaving a home in the St. James area and getting into a vehicle.

A Canada-wide warrant was issued for Giesbrecht's arrest. She was found with the children in west Winnipeg and arrested following a short foot chase.

The children were taken into care, while Giesbrecht was taken into custody and charged with two counts of abduction where there is no custody order.
