Saracens have confirmed the signing of Wales scrum-half Aled Davies ahead of their relegation to the Championship next season.

The 27 year-old has joined the club on a three-year contract. He was part of Wales' Rugby World Cup squad in Japan last year, but was not called up for the Six Nations, with his place taken by the returning Rhys Webb.

Davies made his Wales debut against New Zealand in 2017 and has gone on to win 20 caps, making six starts and scoring one try. He joins Saracens from Ospreys, having previously made over 120 appearances for Scarlets.

Davies is Saracens' first confirmed signing ahead of next season, with the club also recently confirming that lock Joel Kpoku has been promoted from the academy.

By contrast Saracens have announced multiple departures, with England internationals Ben Earl, Max Malins (both Bristol) and Jack Singleton (Gloucester) joining other clubs on season-long loans. Second-rows Will Skelton (La Rochelle) and George Kruis (Panasonic Wild Knights) are also moving on.

England scrum-half Ben Spencer is expected to leave the club and has been linked with a move to Bath, leaving Richard Wigglesworth and Tom Whiteley as the club's remaining senior scrum-halves along with Davies.

“It’s a great opportunity for me at a massive club,” he said. “It’s a massive honour to come here and I can’t wait to get started.

“It seems like there is a good team and family ethos around the club which is very attractive for me and my family.

“I’m looking forward to putting my stamp on things and making an impact, hopefully.”

Director of Rugby Mark McCall said: “Aled is an experienced, talented player and we are delighted to welcome both him and his family to Saracens.

“He is driven to take his game to new levels and we are excited he has chosen to do that at Saracens.”
