Sarah Jessica Parker has provided a promising update on the long-rumoured Hocus Pocus sequel.

Reports of a follow-up started circulating late last year, around the launch of Disney+ in the US.

At the time, it was said that Workaholics writer Jen D'Angelo had signed on to pen the script and Hairspray's Adam Shankman was on board to direct. However, fans have been worrying since whether original cast members Parker, Kathy Najimy and Bette Midler would reprise their roles as the iconic Sanderson sisters.

"I think that it is something Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and I are all very hospitable to the idea," she explained in a teaser for an upcoming episode of Quarantined with Bruce. "I think for a long time, people were talking about it as if people were moving forward with it in a real way but we were unaware of it."

"We've agreed publicly to the right people, yes, that would be a very, very fun idea, so we'll see what the future holds," she added.

Released in 1993, the original centres on a young boy named Max (Omri Katz) who inadvertently resurrects witches Sarah, Winifred and Mary, endangering the Salem town he and his family move to just before Halloween.

Midler previously voiced her enthusiasm to appear in a revisit, telling Buzzfeed: "When a film is being shot, you never quite know the impact. If it'll be a hit or a miss, and... with this one… we hear y'all loud and clear! A sequel is totally in The Disney company's hands – and it will be exciting to see what transpires."
