REGINA — Saskatchewan NDP Leader Ryan Meili is promising to hire more doctors and nurses if his party wins the Oct.26 provincial election.
Meili says his $100-million plan would put 100 more doctors and 150 new registered nurses on the front lines.
He also says 300 licensed practical nurses and 500 continuing-care assistants would be added.
Meili is a family doctor by trade who has long criticized the Saskatchewan Party for inadequate spending on health services.
He also took aim today at the United Conservative Party government in Alberta, where some doctors are leaving or thinking of leaving because of a dispute over how they are paid.
Standing outside a hospital in Regina, Meili said physicians leaving Alberta would be welcome in Saskatchewan under an NDP government.
